Unique decor, art, ooak locally made crafts

On a drizzly day in May, when I knew that my grant was about to end at the nonprofit where I was working,I was lead by Kathryn, a guardian angel, to a vacant shop on historic Cherry Street in Black Mountain, NC., where I live.

She got a key from the landlord and I stepped inside. I fell in love at first sight with the cheerful space: stained glass inserts in the windows, tall ceilings, huge skylight, sunny yellow walls, and even though I hadn’t previously decided to open a shop, I signed a lease on the spot. I started filling the shop with stuff from my house and went from there.

I put whatever stuff I love in the shop, figuring that if it doesn’t sell, I’ll be happy to take it home with me. The sorts of things you will find when you open the chifferobe are rustic antiques, folk art, fine art and crafts, and handmade stuff that makes me laugh, such as the pencils printed by One Up that list the “Six Reasons Why I love You.”  My favorite is “You’ve got integrity.”

Chifferobe Home and Garden Interior has old hooked rugs, peeling paint-shabby chic furniture and picture frames, old baskets, bird houses, stone sculpture, day-of-the-dead artwork, and other unusual items, including whimsical garden art. I carry pottery by local artists, fine blown-glass earrings, blown-glass drinking glasses, and very old postcards.

I add new items almost every day!
