Gosh! I am sorry to have missed sending out a message last week, but time just got away from me. In addition to my flurry of activities gathering up fabulous stuff for holiday shopping, I was also getting ready for a visit from Ron’s favorite sister, Trudy, and her good friend Mary Jo last weekend. I had also volunteered to cater a Quaker retreat our Meeting had scheduled for the same weekend, and was busy-busy preparing meals so I could be more free this year to enjoy the retreat.
Everything went smoothly. Christmas stuff is in the shop, we enjoyed Trudy and Mary Jo, and the Quakers ate all the food and said they liked it. Now I’m trying to gather my strength to host a big Thanksgiving feast for close friends and gear up for the rush of holiday shopping: my favorite time of year. I never grow tired of my four or five Christmas CD’s, especially my latest acquisition, Josh Messick’s “Hammered Dulcimer Christmas,” his latest release. I have a stack of them in the shop, too. I love the feeling of rush-rush as people search for the perfect gifts for their loved ones. I know some people get their shopping done early, but I love being in a crowd of people frantically looking for the right gifts.
A reminder to be sure to come by the shop for the opening of Michelle Hamilton’s show, November 22, from 4-7. Because Glenn and Michelle are such generous party animals, we will stock up on extra food and wine. It is guaranteed to be fun, and you can buy her work in time for Christmas.
I can’t believe we are almost ready for Holly Jolly (Dec. 5) The merchants have also planned lots of new events to encourage shopping in Black Mt. So before you go to Asheville, be sure to shop your small town shops first. We are trying to make it easier for you to do so. Starting on Saturday, November 29, “Shop Small Saturday,” we will be open until seven on selected dates. (December 6, 12, 13, 19, 20.)
Chifferobe will also participate in the Deck the Trees event at the Monte Vista, starting November 29.
