I can feel it in the air! That blast of Arctic cold we had this week seemed to blow in a breath of holiday energy. As the fall has been so mild most of the time, it felt to me as if it were still early fall. People were sleep-walking through the shops in town as if they had months and months to get ready for the holidays. Now with the cold, brisk weather, people are more alive and are moving more quickly and pointedly towards unique and special gifts. Chifferobe, of course, is the chosen destination for those who really do want the unique. (Not like the woman in black who just left the shop five minutes ago. “This place is too funky!” she told her companion in the tight blue perm.)
And if you like unique, you will love the work of Michelle Hamilton, now hanging in the gallery. Please come to the reception Saturday (November 22), from 4-7. It should be crazy fun. If you can’t make it Saturday, never fear, the work will be up for a month.
We have some new things in the shop that I just love. First, I bought paper white bulbs and some jumbo amaryllis bulbs at The Gardener’s Cottage in Biltmore Village, and I have started them in lovely antique vessels. Come and get them while they last! To me Christmas isn’t Christmas without these two beauties in my home.
I have also found some wonderful pieces of furniture that will put the finishing touch on your home for holiday entertaining. My two favorites are a small, five-drawer oak chest of drawers and a comfie yellow and blue wing back chair. The chest is small enough to serve double-duty as a side table, while holding lots of stuff in the drawers. The chair is big and roomy and covered in a beautiful cotton fabric. The frame is sturdy and appears to be vintage or even antique.
Enjoy the holiday season! It’s my favorite time of year, and I try so hard to slow down a bit to savor every moment. Can you believe that this time next week we will be wishing we hadn’t eaten so much the day before!
Have a Yummy Thanksgiving!!
