Happy Day After Thanksgiving.

I am writing this newsletter the day before Thanksgiving, so I am NOT wishing I hadn’t eaten so much the day before. In fact I ate quite sparingly yesterday (Tuesday). I saved my appetite for dinner at the wonderful Sake and Sushi in Cheshire. (If you haven’t tried it yet, you are in for a treat.)

Which brings me to some of the things I am thankful for this year.

I am not going to list the obvious things: Ron, our kids and their families and loved ones, health, and so on. But here are some of the things that make me smile this year:

—the return visits of customers who tell me how much they enjoy coming into the store

—impulsive buyers!

—friends who drop into the shop to say hello

—getting the winning bid at auctions

—finding treasures on my travels, which I bring back to the shop

—evenings when the dogs allow me to sit on the couch (instead of pushing me onto the floor)

—a fire in the wood stove on cold nights

—a salad someone else has made

—when people let me know they have read my newsletter and/or blog

—my grandchildren’s athletic ability

—my grandchildren’s love of reading

—folk art

—fresh vegetables

—St Andre cheese

—Kurt’s meats

—Sauvignon Blanc wine

—cooking

—my former mother-in-law, Anna Maria, whom I thank daily for teaching me to cook

—seeing Charlotte friends

—knitting a sweater for someone I love

—guerilla sewing on my new sewing machine

—making a poundcake that doesn’t bubble over and mess up the oven

—the first cup of Dynamite coffee each morning

—reading in bed at night

—the Christmas season

I could go on, but I will spare you!

Enjoy the first week of holiday crunch time!
